-
A fantastic tool that can be used as an aid to a biomechanics related dissertation / thesis
The screening process takes approximately 1.30 hours and involves –
- The practitioner taking an initial detailed case history
- Placing strategic markers on your horse and bandaging the tail
- Video screening the horse in trot using a high speed camera
- Analysing the data and producing a final report and CD
The flexion of the carpus / tarsus and fetlock joints of left and right fore and hindlimbs are compared during trot. The key aim of the markers and the high speed video process is to be able to assess the flexion of the key joints in the legs in much greater detail than is possible with the naked eye. The process can also be used as a diagnostic tool to help confirm the opinions / suspitions of a well trained and experienced eye.
The practitioner will analyse the data provided as a result of the screening process and provide a full report within 3 to 4 working days, captured in both written format and on disc. The disc will also include the relevant screening videos and photographs for the client to watch in conjunction with the written report at their leisure.
Mr G - wondering why he is covered in sticky white balls...

Stills from the video that is being assessed through the software system - The lift and fall of each joint through a single pace of trot are illustrated by the horizontal red lines across the phptograph. The flexion of each of the joints through each frame of the video are evident through the emerging carpet of colour as the trot pace progresses.
A full screening report will cover a large amount of information and analysis about the horse including the following points -
